Enhancing Heart Health administers on-site Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) exams for schools and athletic programs in an effort to detect early warning signals of heart complications in at-risk youth. An EKG is a ten minute procedure that can detect 65% of most common heart conditions. Our system is designed to help identify these heart conditions and prevent incidences that can become fatal.
Recognizing that resources and/or expertise to effectively address these heart related issues are often scarce in many school districts and organizations, Enhancing Heart Health has taken on the responsibility of creating a network of medical practitioners in order to provide this Electrocardiogram medical service directly to school districts and community centers.
What is Sudden Cardiac Arrest?
Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the condition in which the heart unexpectedly ceases to function. Often, this is because of irregular and rapid quivering of the heart’s lower pumping chambers (ventricles) called ventricular fibrillation. When this occurs, blood stops flowing to the brain and other vital organs, causing loss of consciousness or seizure-like activity in seconds.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest is frequently the outcome of an underlying heart condition and is indiscriminate as to age, race or gender and kills over 300,000 Americans each year. Victims of SCA may never experience any warning signs.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest is NOT a Heart Attack.
"The most common cause of Sudden Cardiac Death among young athletes is a heart condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This condition makes it difficult for blood to leave the heart and is unfortunately difficult to detect without in-depth testing."
